Foreman Library Collection: Book Series

series--hunger games..jpeg series--twilight-books.jpg series--rick riordan.gif

What is a book series?
A series is two or more fiction books featuring the same character or characters. Examples include Harry Potter, Jayd in Drama High series, and Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games Trilogy. We typically read a series on the same order in which the books were written.

Why read a book series?
We become attached to a character and come to know them intimately as we watch them grow and change from book-to-book. We also may strongly like or dislike them (emotional connections) and/or we become deeply involved in the setting of a given story. We go to movie sequels for much the same reason that we read book series. A series can provide a deeply rewarding experience that leaves you sad when you read the last book.

Are you searching for a series? See Books in a Series Database:
  • The Nebraska Library Commission has provided a Books in Series Database that works very well. If you know the author, book title or series title you can quickly connect to ordered lists of the series you seek. Unfortunately, this site does not subject search: ex. will not connect to other series about vampires if you liked the Twilight Saga.

  • Another excellent book and/or author searching resource is Fantastic Fiction. Can search by author, book title, or ISBN. Very Large Database.

Theirs is also the task of keeping the peace among the warring Downworlders: the human-demon crossbreeds we know as warlocks, vampires, werewolves, and faeries.

In their duties they are aided by the mysterious Silent Brothers. Their lips and eyes sewn shut, the Silent Brothers rule over the City of Bones, the necropolis below the streets of Manhattan that holds the dead bodies of slain Shadowhunters. The Silent Brothers keep the archival records of ever Shadowhunter ever born. They also watch over the Mortal Instruments, the three divine objects the Angel Raziel gave to his children. One is a sword. One is a mirror. And the last is a cup.

For a thousand years, the Nephilim have protected the Mortal Instruments. But that was before the Uprising, the civil war that almost tore the Shadowhunters' secret world apart. Though Valentine, the Shadowhunter who started the war, is long dead, the wounds it left behind have never healed.
